First Three episodes.
Whilst we await the next three episodes of Choo Chang Min's new drama, Rowoon's acting performance is already captivating viewers. Beyond his makeup and physical transformation for the role, the close-up shots of his face and eyes are emblematic of the director's expressionist style choice. The camera close-ups reveal the emotional turmoils of the characters, particularly when it comes to Jang Si-yul, played by Rowoon. From the very beginning, his tormented figure seems to bear the weight of the world, drawing the viewer's attention to this mysterious character, in contrast to the fast-paced life of the gangsters., As the story unfolds, the camera moves even closer to the actor to try and catch what is simmering inside his soul, the music of his acting. His suppressed anger and suffering, his distrust of humanity, his inability to communicate verbally—all of this is comes out through his facial expressions, captured in close-up. The actor reportedly dedicated himself fully to this role, relentlessly refining his acting skills. The result is stunning. Without even uttering a word, he conveys his character's feelings. His face and gaze define the meaning of the narrative and Si-yul's personal story, without any further explanation. Pain and distress palpable in his eyes. What comes next we will see.
In his first six dramas, Rowoon developed at his own pace, progressing step by step, but always with great intensity and sensibility. He possesses something unique, a burning passion for his work, an acute insight and that extraordinary ability to change into any character he wants. In this seventh project, he displays a remarkable acting maturity and a captivating presence, which the camera beautifully captures.
Looking forward to the next episodes!
